Christopher H. Walton, College Bursar 1987-1995 was the first full time stipendiary College Bursar appointed in September 1987. Walton came to the College from a senior management position at the World Bank in Washington DC. Previously his national service culminated in his appointment in the rank of major in the Royal Fusiliers. He graduated in history with economics at Caius College Cambridge. Thereafter most of his career was spent in overseas development with the Commonwealth Development Corporation, his major achievement being the transformation of the Kenya tea industry to become the world's largest tea exporter.
On retirement Walton was appointed financial adviser to the Oxford Union, for thirteen years a governor of Stowe school, and held the positions of chairman and later president of the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust. He was appointed MBE in June 2011.
