Appointments Assistant Pathologist, Middlesex Hospital: Reader & Hon Consultant Virologist, Middlesex Hospital Medical School; Professor of Pathology & Head of Department, University of Bristol; Emeritus Professor at Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford & Hon Fellow of Wolfson College. Honours Numerous medals, hon degrees, hon professorships and fellowships, named & leading lecturerships; four international prizes; elected to the Royal Society 1979, served on Council, as Foreign Secretary & as Vice President; appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire 1985; Knighted 1991. Public Service Served on numerous scientific advisory committees & research boards; on Executive Council, European Science Foundation; on Executive Board, International Council of Scientific Unions; as Special Representative of the Director General of UNESCO; on Advisory Group, World Bank China Key Development Project.
