Wolfson Fellows honoured at University Teaching Awards

University Teaching awards were created with the aim of highlighting the best and most innovative teaching throughout the Departments and Colleges and recipients are chosen by their divisions.

Dr Ulrike Roesler, Wolfson Governing Body Fellow, was recognised for her commitment and contribution to the teaching of Tibetan and Himalayan Studies. Dr Roesler is the co-ordinator of the Tibetan and Himalayan Studies Research Cluster at Wolfson, which is a vibrant and interdisciplinary centre for research and events in the University.

The Social Sciences division recognised the ‘innovative contributions' Dr Nikita Sud, Wolfson Governing Body Fellow, has made towards teaching her students, including the expert use of audio/visual resources. Based at the Oxford Department for International Development, Dr Sud is currently researching the liberalisation of land in modern-day India, and is an active contributor to the Wolfson South Asia Research Cluster (SARC).

In addition to the awarding of the Teaching Excellence Awards, the two Wolfson recipients of Project Grants were also recognised. Project Grants support schemes that promise to develop new educational practice in any area.

Professor Jonathan Austyn, Governing Body Fellow, was awarded a grant to explore the feasibility of expanding postgraduate study in Integrated Immunology through part-time and distance learning, to target underprivileged students in developing countries who otherwise lack access to high-level teaching in this area.

Research Fellow Dr Kate Sullivan's award will support doctoral students learning Hindi through ‘a series of simulated “in-country” experiences'. Dr Sullivan's research focuses on Indian conceptions of greatness within world politics, India's nuclear politics, and the history of India's diplomatic institutions and identities, and she is the covenor of the South Asia Work in Progress Seminars for the SARC.

The Oxford University Student Union Teaching Awards were also presented at this event, and Dr Marc Ventresca, Governing Body Fellow, received the Social Sciences Division Award for Innovation in Teaching.
