In Memoriam

The College will be profoundly sad to learn of the death of Professor Jon Stallworthy on 19 November, at his home. Jon Stallworthy was one of this country's most admired poets, for many years a central and leading figure in the English Faculty at Oxford, and at the heart of Wolfson College's life and community.

He was born on 18 January 1935 and was educated at the Dragon School, at Rugby, and at Magdalen College Oxford. He was poetry editor at Oxford University Press, a Professor of Literature at Cornell University, and from 1986 a Reader and Professor in Oxford. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and of the British Academy.

He became a Wolfson College Governing Body Fellow in 1986. From 2000 to 2002 he was Senior Research Fellow and from 2002 to 2014 he was an Extraordinary Fellow. He served as Vicegerent from 1999 to 2001, and as Acting President twice, in 2000, and again from January 2007 to September 2008.

The College will be kept informed of funeral and memorial arrangements.
