- Recounting the construction and fitting out of ships ‘in the first year of John Hawkins' Treasurership, 1578...' Loades (drawing on MS Rawlinson A203 [Bodleian Library, Oxford]) records that ‘Two ships, the Revenge and the Scout were fitted out....'

- Describing Elizabeth I's shipbuilding programme, Loades (drawing on Glasgow T, ‘List of Ships in the Royal Navy from 1539 - 1588' [Mariners' Mirror, 61, 1975]) lists Revenge and Scout as having been built in 1577.
