Peer Support

Wolfson Welfare Committee is recruiting Peer Support Trainees for 2011-2012. This is a valuable part of the college welfare provision and gives graduate students the chance to contribute to the college community. It is a voluntary programme and all Peer Supporters will have the opportunity to participate in an extremely useful training programme provided by the University Counselling Services.

What is Peer Support at Wolfson?

• A group of your own Wolfson peers trained by the Counselling Service • A confidential listening service for  members  and  spouses  at Wolfson • An informal and friendly service • A space to talk about and externalize concerns – big or small!

A source for further information or help (referrals)

   And more!...

Although we are not trained to provide  counselling  or  give  advice,  we  are  not  judgmental  or biased.  We  are  happy  to  listen to  whatever  problems  emerge and we are here to help.

What is Peer Support Training?

 •   Training is provided by qualified Peer Support Programme trainers through the University of Oxford Counselling Service.

Training consists of 10 three-hour sessions and continues through regular supervision after the structured training has ended.

Skills learned through training include being a good listener, helping others to feel more comfortable with social, academic and personal relationships and managing and communicating about sensitive issues.

If you would like to join the Peer Support Team and play a greater role in the college then please contact the Welfare Officer, gayle [dot] lonergan [at] wolfson [dot] ox [dot] ac [dot] uk (Gayle Lonergan). She will be happy to answer any queries and to help you with the application.
