Barbecues

A set of four back-to-back and side-by-side barbecues for use by members of College was donated to the College by former President, Sir Raymond Hoffenberg. These are of simple design and stand on an enlarged concrete base to reduce the risk of slipping.

They can be reserved through a booking system held behind reception in the Lodge.

The following guidance must be followed:

Please use the booking system in the Lodge.

BBQ Users must sign the booking sheets held in the Lodge when they start, and sign again when they have finished. This is for Health and Safety reasons, so the Lodge are aware that there is a potential risk present.

The four BBQs are designed to allow flexibility of use.

Each BBQ bay is fitted with 3 rails so tray heights may be adjusted.

The BBQs are designed to accept a proprietary BBQ kit tray marketed by B&Q, the 'Pine Creek Build In Charcoal Barbecue' available at approximately £15.00, online at B&Q's website or at stores.

A thick steel base plate is also provided, on which charcoal can be placed if the above kit is not available.

Proprietary BBQ packs can also be placed on the base plate.

The College does not provide or stock BBQ grill kits for health and hygiene reasons, and users are responsible for the cleanliness of their own equipment.

Fire Buckets (containing sand) are provided - one at each end of the BBQ structure - and should only be used if a fire gets out of control. Users should familiarise themselves with the location of the nearest fire extinguishers, but fire-fighting equipment should only be used in an emergency.

Users are required to make sure fires are extinguished before they leave, and to place used coals and used disposable BBQs on the concrete floor below the base plate, leaving the base plate clean for the next user. A coal shovel is provided.

Base plates should not be removed.

College grounds staff will clear away spent coals on a weekly basis.

Food debris should be bagged and taken away at the end of the BBQ. This and other rubbish should be placed in the North Car Park skips, in order to avoid attracting vermin.

During the BBQ, bagged rubbish may be stored for convenience and hygiene in the nearby temporary storage waste bin, but this should be emptied by each user after every BBQ, and the contents placed in the North Car Park skips.

PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO SIGN THE LODGE SHEET WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED USING THE BBQ.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THE FIRES ARE OUT AND THE BBQ IS LEFT CLEAN AND TIDY FOR THE NEXT USER.

Thank you.

The College also posesses two gas fired trolley-style barbecues, for use for College 'al fresco' functions. These are managed by the steward [at] wolfson [dot] ox [dot] ac [dot] uk (Steward), and can only be used when supervised by trained staff.
